September is Suicide Prevention Month. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one person dies by suicide every 11 minutes in the United States, but a Lowcountry family is working to change that one step at a time.

Raj’s death came in the midst of decades of unsuccessful attempts to tamp down suicide rates nationwide. During the past two decades federal officials have launched three national suicide prevention strategies, including one announced in April.
