Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said Tuesday that he had taken legal action against a Mesa County sheriff’s deputy over an alleged violation of state laws prohibiting coordination between local police and federal immigration agents.

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is suing a sheriff's deputy who Weiser says told ICE officials in an encrypted Signal chat to a woman who was allegedly in the U.S. on an expired visa, in violation of state law.

The deputy purposely stalled a 19-year-old student so federal immigration officers could get into position to arrest her, Weiser said.
