The Trump administration’s massive federal cuts and swelling feelings of economic uncertainty helped fuel a recession-level spike in layoffs last month, new data showed Thursday.

The federal government was responsible for the largest share of cuts, at more than 62,000.

The U.S. job market has taken a worrisome turn for the worst. Job cuts are already over a third higher than in all of 2024. And more job losses are on the way.
