Immigration enforcement agents carried out raids in Los Angeles, prompting gatherings of protesters who at one point clashed with authorities.
"As Mayor of a proud city of immigrants, who contribute to our city in so many ways, I am deeply angered by what has taken place," Bass said. "These tactics sow terror in our communities and disrupt basic principles of safety in our city. My office is in close coordination with immigrant rights community organizations. We will not stand for this."

Many undocumented immigrants who went to ICE check-in appointments at a federal building in L.A. were taken into custody, brought to the basement and held there, lawyers and family members say.
“SEIU California members call for the immediate release of our President, David Huerta, who was injured and detained at the site of one of today's ICE raids in Los Angeles. He is now receiving medical attention while in custody,” Tia Orr, Executive Director of SEIU California, said.
Representative Jimmy Gomez is demanding answers from DHS over reports of detainees being held in a Los Angeles basement.
LA Mayor Karen Bass and other city leaders as well as Governor Newsom expressed their outage, calling the raids cruel and chaotic.
