Marcus Rashford and Joan Garcia have been registered in time to feature in Barcelona’s first La Liga game of the new season against Mallorca on Saturday. The forward signed on loan with an option to buy from Manchester United last month but faced a problem that has hampered Barcelona in recent seasons.

The club’s registration headache has been partly resolved through some dramatic internal manoeuvring involving captain Marc-André ter Stegen. The German keeper initially refused to sign a long-term medical leave agreement that would clear 80 per cent of his wages and help the club comply with financial rules.

Marcus Rashford has now officially been registered in Barcelona's La Liga squad. This means the forward is able to make his Spanish league debut tonight when La Blaugrana begin their title defence against RCD Mallorca at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.
