The versatile infielder is operating as a backup behind Tampa Bay’s typical starting infield of Jonathan Aranda, Brandon Lowe, Junior Caminero and Ha-Seong Kim.

Lowe has been dealing with tendinitis in his left ankle. He exited Saturday’s game and was initially diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. The injury was later clarified as tendinitis.

E arlier today, the Atlanta Braves traded outfielder Stuart Fairchild to the Tampa Bay Rays for old friend, cash considerations. The Braves designated Fairchild for assignment yesterday when they brought veteran catcher Sandy León to the big-league roster.

With eight days left until the July 31 trade deadline, things can quickly shift from one direction to the next as teams win or lose.
