Torrential rainfall led to flash flooding across Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia on Saturday, triggering numerous emergency rescues. Some suburbs recorded over 5 inches of rain, rendering major roads impassable.
Major I-95 cities -- Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Virginia -- could be impacted as heavy downpours could bring 2-3 inches of rainfall per hour over already saturated soils, which could easily cause flash flooding.
For one, the flood-ravaged region around Ruidoso, New Mexico, again finds itself at risk for slow-moving storms causing rapid water rise.
Washington D.C.'s forecast includes sun, clouds, potential storms, and a Flood Watch. Highs may reach 92 degrees with chances of severe thunderstorms.
Today, 17 million are under flood alerts across the Gulf Coast and in the Mid-Atlantic, and 19 million are under heat alerts across the Mid-Atlantic, southern Florida and Mississippi Valley.
"2025 has been the year of the flood," said WPLG-TV meteorologist Michael Lowry in a July 15 email to USA TODAY. "The tragic July 4th flooding in central Texas – the deadliest flash flood in at least 50 years in the U.S. – punctuated what’s been an especially bad year for flooding across the country."
