The automotive manufacturer has unveiled its highly anticipated $10 billion “Woven City,” a futuristic, eco-friendly community in Shizuoka, Japan.

Employee residents are ‘Weavers’ and corporations are ‘Inventors’ in the new village near Mount Fuji.

Beginning in fall 2025, 100 residents known as “weavers” will move to the city, with that number expected to expand to 360 during phase one. Eventually, Toyota says, up to 2,000 people will reside in the city. They will primarily be employees of Toyota or Toyota’s Woven by Toyota mobility tech company.

Toyota has completed the first phase of construction of Woven City, a futuristic city located on the former site of the Higashi-Fuji factory in Susono, Japan.

Toyota Motor Corporation is moving ahead with its vision of the future where it isn’t a mix of Camrys and Corollas, or hybrids and EVs, but one of “inventors” and “weavers’ in a community centered around mobility.

With the first phase of construction complete, the private city at the base of Mt. Fuji will welcome around 100 Toyota employees this fall.
