Springsteen's friend, Joe DePugh, was the high school pitcher referenced in the hit song. DePugh has passed away at age 75.

"Just a moment to mark the passing of Freehold native and ballplayer Joe DePugh," Springsteen wrote. "'He could throw that speedball by you, make you look like a fool'"

Bruce Springsteen is seemingly gearing up to release another massive collection from his vaults. After teasing on Instagram on Tuesday (April 1) that “what was lost has now been found,” The Boss posted the official teaser for what appears to be another career-spanning project on Wednesday (April 2) via another Insta post with the caption #TheLostAlbums.

Last year, the Bruce Springsteen camp said that 2025 would bring “a look back at” his “storied recording career, featuring never-before-heard material,” That tease is now bearing fruit, as the Boss is touting the release tomorrow (April 3) of details pertaining to a long-awaited rarities collection thought to be titled Tracks II — The Lost Albums (1983-2018).

The Lost Albums” on Thursday, the singer announced on social media Wednesday morning. No further information was provided, but the first volume of “Tracks” was 4-CD, 66-song collection of unreleased material from across his career that was issued in 1998.
