Ohtani is the second Japanese-born player to hit a home run in an MLB game played in Japan, joining Hideki Matsui. Matsui hit a two-run home run for the New York Yankees against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at the Tokyo Dome on March 31, 2004.

It's Opening Day in Los Angeles and Shohei Ohtani has already hit a home run on two continents. He hit a solo home run in his return to the Tokyo Dome on March 19 in a Tokyo Series win over the Chicago Cubs. That shot went to right center for his first home run of the 2025 season. Again, that happened on the continent of Asia.

Facing a full count against Brenan Hanifee of the Detroit Tigers, the left-handed batter swung and blasted the baseball deep over left field. Ohtani took his laps around the base. But the Academy Award winning actor Hanks got seen losing it in excited fashion after the home run.
