Among South Carolina's 271 towns and cities, 94 saw no population growth or lost population and 177 saw gains — 62 of those growing more rapidly than the average across the South.
Only three — Florida, Texas and Utah — saw their total populations grow faster. South Carolina's population increased by an estimated 91,001 people, just slightly above the 90,600 in 2023.
In August 2023, South Carolina had a labor force of 2,462,494. In August 2024, the labor force was 2,538,615 — an increase of more than 76,000 people.
