Robbie Brewer, a veteran short track racer in the Carolinas, died Saturday night after a crash while racing in the Sportsman division at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem. He was 53.

Robbie Brewer, a 53-year-old racing veteran in the Sportsman Division, crashed head-on into the wall on a restart during a race on Saturday night. The crash caused the car to roll down the front stretch. Brewer was extricated from his car and taken to a local hospital.

Robbie Brewer’s car struck head-on a wall on the quarter-mile (0.40-kilometer) track at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem and came to a stop near the start-finish line.
