The top Washington-based diplomats for Greenland and Denmark met with White House officials at the National Security Council on Thursday as Greenland continues to publicly and privately insist it is not for sale.

Greenland should hold direct talks with the U.S. government without Denmark, a Greenlandic opposition leader told Reuters, as the Arctic island weighs how to respond to President Donald Trump's renewed push to bring it under U.

US President Donald Trump is considering making an offer to buy Greenland, the White House said Wednesday, despite the island's people and controlling power Denmark making clear the territory is not for sale.

The rumor came from Denmark's former Minister of Greenland Tom Høyem. A British journalist contradicted the claim.

Katie Miller, the wife of President Trump's deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, posted an image of Greenland covered by the U.S. flag on X.

US Vice-President JD Vance says Greenland is "critical" for the defence of the US and the world against possible Russian or Chinese missile attacks - and that Europe and Denmark have "not done a good job" in securing the area.

Trump administration official Stephen Miller argued Greenland should be part of the United States in an interview on CNN, questioning Denmark's territorial claim.
