CHEROKEE, N.C. — Founded in 1948, the Museum of the Cherokee Indian is one of the oldest tribal museums in the U.S., and for the first time since 1998, the museum is getting a major renovation.
“I hope, with this new rebrand, Cherokee people feel represented,” says Maney. As a tribal citizen, Maney is excited about the Museum’s new name. “I feel it’s inclusive,” she shares.
A new exhibit at the Museum of the Cherokee People opens today. Called sov·er·eign·ty, the exhibit focuses on the autonomy of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
