Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is speaking up about who he believes lawmakers should choose to serve as the chamber's speaker.

The Texas attorney general said he is frustrated with the longstanding tradition that awards the minority party at least some committee chairmanships.

Paxton appealed a federal court ruling blocking the voter ID law in August 2017, the same month he asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court ruling that invalidated nine redrawn Texas House districts that were deemed intentionally discriminatory.
