The Supreme Court early Saturday morning paused the deportation of immigrants potentially subject to the Alien Enemies Act, freezing action in a fast-developing case involving a group of immigrants in Texas who say the Trump administration was working to remove them.

Attorneys for Venezuelan immigrants told federal courts that deportations might begin as soon as Friday night, and that some may have already been “loaded on to buses.”

The Supreme Court temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deporting a group of Venezuelans detained in Texas, granting them a reprieve from being imminently sent to a notorious prison in El Salvador.
