Dave Grohl's daughter Violet sang with his fellow Nirvana band members on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the FireAid Benefit Concert for California Fire Relief
Nirvana's surviving members made a brief unannounced and unexpected reunion during FireAid, a charity concert raising money for those affected by the LA wildfires. Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear reunited to perform four tracks during a short set in Inglewood on Thursday (January 30) night.
The significance of the opening in Ireland is that Cobain had Irish roots himself, having ancestors who emigrated to the United States from Carrickmore, County Tyrone, in 1875. Cobain was even due to perform with Nirvana at Dublin’s RDS Arena a mere three days after he killed himself in April 1994.
Meanwhie, a whole host of other performances came from stars including Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder. Green Day and Billie Eilish performed the rock band’s hit Last Night on Earth together, while Joni Mitchell took to the stage aged 81 for a rare performance.
FireAid had some surprises in store, but none bigger than the first reunion from Nirvana's surviving members in over a decade.

The band also brought out Dave Grohl's 18-year-old daughter, Violet Grohl, to wrap up the set with an emotional rendition of "All Apologies"
The surviving members of Nirvana — drummer Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic, as well as touring guitarist Pat Smear — reunited for the first time in five years at the FireAid benefit concert.
Then came what was perhaps the biggest surprise: Violet Grohl, Dave’s 18-year-old daughter, singing lead vocals on Nirvana’s In Utero highlight “All Apologies.” Her vocals were strong and well-suited for the song, and while the magnitude of the Kia Forum’s crowd wasn’t lost on her, she was remarkably comfortable in front of the massive crowd.
