Ocean State Job Lot, a discount brand with a strong presence in New England and the Northeast, may snatch up more than a dozen Big Lots leases. The restructuring firm that took control of Big Lots in the wake of its bankruptcy last year appears to be making progress in its effort to transfer some of the discount chain’s ill-fated locations to other retailers.

Gordon Brothers, which acquired the struggling Columbus-based retailer last month put around 500 stores up for sale and assigned another 200 to Henderson, North Carolina-based Variety Wholesalers Inc. who will continue to operate those locations under the Big Lots brand.

A going out of business sale is underway at the Big Lots in Vestal as the discount retailer shutters all of its stores across the country. Everything at the store is between 20 and 50 percent off currently.

As Big Lots' bankruptcy process continues, more stores have been added to the list of leases for sale, indicating imminent closures.
