Since its 1966 opening, the Sydney Fish Market has evolved from a wholesale distribution center into one of Sydney's most-visited shopping and culinary hubs. For many, its renovation is long overdue.

The new site has cost taxpayers at least AUD 836 million ($525.5m). The sources said Sydney Fish Market would post an AUD 8m loss in 2023-24 and had retained insolvency experts.
