Hurricane Erin could 'at least double or triple in size' next week and the track has shifted south, but remains likely to turn away from the East Coast.

Erin is forecast to become a major hurricane and cruise the waters between Bermuda and the United States next week. Even if a direct hit does not occur in the U.S., seas and surf will pose serious threats to coastal areas.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring another area off the eastern United States for tropical development. An area of low pressure can form in a couple of days. Some gradual development is possible midweek as the system drifts northwest.

For now, most reliable computer models that meteorologists use show Erin curving away from the United States, spinning off the East Coast later in August.
