Four University of Iowa students and graduates from China and India, one of whom works for the state as an epidemiologist, are suing the federal government for revoking their status as students, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reports.

Four University of Iowa international students admitted to the United States on F-1 student visas are suing the Department of Homeland Security, its Secretary Kristi Noem, and ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons for terminating their statuses “without legal justification or explanation.

The five students are not required to leave campus or the country, the University of Iowa's graduate student union said in a release. Revoked student visas can be reinstated after a review process while the UI's Office of International Student and Scholar Services can advocate for the reinstatement of those visas.
