The Braves surrendered seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to lose a wild 11-10 contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.

On the Braves' end, this was their largest blown lead since Sept. 5, 2018, when they had a 7-1 lead over the Red Sox heading into the eighth and lost 9-8. Even then, six of those runs came in the eighth, leaving just two in the ninth.

Merrill Kelly was just too much for Atlanta’s lineup to deal with in this one. Kelly pitched seven shutout innings as Chris Sale’s strong start went down in vain. The Atlanta Braves had their chances (especially late) but they were unable to capitalize and ended up falling to the Diamondbacks in an uninspiring 2-1 defeat.
