The Texas Department of Public Safety is highlighting a recent case to warn about a rising trend of stolen cars in Webb County.

A Houston woman was arrested after Texas DPS troopers found 25 illegal immigrants hidden behind mattresses and inside a crawlspace of a box truck, leading to human smuggling charges.

“Events like these are the primary means of raising money for the foundation and helping the men and women of DPS,” said Darrell Taylor, chairman of the DPS Foundation. “Through immediate financial assistance and our scholarship program, this is how we’re able to give back.”

An estimated $1 million worth of stolen merchandise was recovered and $636,000 was seized in a bust that landed two Denton County suspects in jail.
