Donald Trump called on Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to resign over China-linked investments.

Intel shares (INTC.O) rose 4% on Friday on hopes of more financial aid for the turnaround of the struggling chipmaker after a report that the U.S. government may buy a stake.

The reported move would be a "lifeline" for Intel, offering the company funding and government support, said tech analyst David Nicholson from The Futurum Group, a market research firm.
