President Trump is set to take action Tuesday to offer some relief to automakers from the effects of his steep tariffs.

Some tariff relief is on the way for automakers after the White House confirmed the US will act on Tuesday to alleviate some duties on the industry. Officials said companies already paying tariffs on imported vehicles won't be charged other levies,

The tariffs imposed by Trump were seen by some as an existential threat to the auto sector. Arthur Laffer, whom Trump gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to during his first term, said in a private analysis that the tariffs without any modifications could add $4,711 to the cost of a vehicle.
