Nov 6, 2012 · I keep coming back to the AirPods Max. Yes they AirPods Pro 2 are very good earbuds, but they can't compete for sound with AirPods Max simply due to driver size. The APMs have a MUCH wider soundstage, more satisfying bass and crisper highs. The sound just feels bigger and more 'authentic'. The APP2s are smaller sounding, much smaller soundstage.

The headphones do not fold down like the prior version and are slightly less portable, but Sony does offer them with a much better case option than the AirPods Max "bra" case.

However, it's not really clear to me whether they support lossless ALAC when they are connected with the supplied USB-C cable to my Mac that plays Apple Music with quality set to "Losless ALAC up to 24-bit/48kHz" in the settings.

There’s one BT headphone that’s superior in almost all aspects to the Airpods Max, the Hifiman Ananda BT, but it retails for twice as much ($1000) and is an open-back headphone.
