We have 2 dogs (about 50 pounds each) that like to get up on the sofa with us so we're wondering what kind of material would be most dog-resistant. We're thinking either leather or microfiber.

May 26, 2015 · If you are ok with marks and scuffs, leather holds up well, fur (and mud, and the dogs favorite godknowswhatelse) wipes off, but the dog will scuff it up in some form or fashion. Most furniture fabric is pretty heavy duty, but I would stay with tight weaves and smooth textures.

Apr 29, 2012 · Leather is the best, as long as you pick one that can't be scratched. Rake your nails through the sample to be certain. Certain chenilles are very durable, not sure which ones would be less likely to hold odors though. Personally, I'd go with leather if you are a pet owner who wants a sofa to last more than a few years.

May 30, 2015 · Leather is best. Just wipe it off with a damp towel. (CostCo sells leather couches at a very reasonable price.) But don't get the inexpensive manufactured leather that is popular now. It'll get scratched up and your dog's nails will go right through it. If mud/dirt is not too big an issue for you, microfiber is second best.

Feb 14, 2011 · I would definitely not do a leather couch outside. The dust would be horrible. The low humidity and sun will dry out and crack the leather. They make plenty of real outdoor furniture. To me, a living room couch outdoors is tacky. Amd of course critters and spiders will get into the cracks and crevices.
