Saint Louis Roman Catholic Church is the oldest Catholic parish in Buffalo. It was the first Catholic church built in Buffalo, and holds the title of "Mother Church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo". The parish was established January 5, 1829 with land contributed by Louis Stephen LeCouteulx de Caumont, a French nobleman.

They settled in Buffalo, New York where he served as pastor of Trinity Old Lutheran Church for 40 years. On July 15, 1845, along with four pastors, Grabau founded "The Synod of the Lutheran Church emigrated from Prussia" which became known as "the Buffalo Synod".
