NOAA's GOES West (GOES-18) satellite has been closely tracking a potent and persistent atmospheric river that has brought torrential rain and high winds to the Pacific Northwest this week. As arctic air surges into the central and eastern U.S. this weekend, accumulating snow is forecast from the western slopes of the central Appalachians into tonight, then across the northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England early on Sunday. Lake-effect snows will be active as well.
